In html href is an attribute which specifies the anchor as a beginning of a link to another file altogether or sometimes to a specific page in the same directory or a location in the present web page. This attribute is optional.

The location of the file may be defined by either giving a complete URL or a limited URL.

<A HREF=”URL”> anchor </A>

Where URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator and is specified for the file  to be checked.

In html href may assist for entering other HTML file, images, etc. Sometimes it may also avail ftp: or gopher.

The anchor is specified by tag <a>.

This can be availed for making links to other files with the help of html href attribute.

It may also assist in making bookmarks in a file with the help of name attribute.

This<a> tag is generally called hyperlink or simply link.

Html href is a vital attribute of <a> element that denotes the link’s address.

Links will be shown in a browser in the following manner:

A link that has been visited is purple in color and underlined

A link that has not been gone to yet is underlined and blue in color

A link that is active is underlined and red in color
